What We Do

Calhoun Law Firm PLLC Universal City, Texas
Most people meet the civil justice system exactly once — after a storm, a collision, a denial, or a broken agreement. We built this firm so that the person on the other side of that letter has someone who reads it as carefully as the company that wrote it.

Areas of Practice

Four disputes we
know intimately.

We keep a deliberately narrow practice. Every matter that comes through the door falls into work we have done many times before — which is why we can tell you early, and honestly, where you stand.

01

Property Damage

When a carrier undervalues the claim or denies it outright, we build the record — inspection, estimate, engineering, policy language — and hold the insurer to the contract it wrote.

  • Hail, windstorm and roof damage
  • Fire, smoke and water losses
  • Foundation and structural movement
  • Underpaid, delayed or denied claims
Homeowners & Businesses
02

Personal Injury

You concentrate on getting better; we handle the adjusters, the medical records and the proof of fault — and we tell you what the case is realistically worth before anyone signs anything.

  • Motor vehicle and trucking collisions
  • Premises liability and unsafe conditions
  • Negligence and wrongful conduct
  • Liability disputes with insurers
Injured Persons
03

Health Insurance

We read the plan documents rather than the denial letter, exhaust the appeals in the right order, and litigate when the stated reason doesn't survive scrutiny.

  • Denied and rescinded coverage
  • Delayed or refused authorizations
  • Out-of-network and billing disputes
  • Internal appeals and external review
Consumers & Plan Members
04

Business Litigation

Owners rarely want a trial — they want the matter resolved without stalling the business. We plan for both, and we're candid about which one your file is heading toward.

  • Breach of contract and warranty
  • Partnership and ownership disputes
  • Vendor, supplier and service claims
  • Commercial insurance disputes
Business Owners & Organizations

A claim is only worth what someone is prepared to prove.

The Firm

  • Licensed to practice in Texas and Colorado
  • Consumer-side civil litigation — we act for the claimant, not the carrier
  • Direct attorney access from the first call through resolution
  • Clear, written explanation of strategy, timeline and cost before we begin

How We Work

No mystery.
No meter running in silence.

Four steps, and you know what happens at each one. If your matter isn't a fit for this firm, we'll tell you that on the first call rather than the third month.

01

The Call

Tell us what happened, in your own words. You speak with an attorney — not an intake script — and there is no charge for the conversation.

You leave with: a straight answer
02

The Review

We read the policy, the contract or the file, and give you a plain assessment: what you likely have, what you likely don't, and what proof is missing.

You leave with: an honest assessment
03

The Strategy

Demand, negotiation or suit. You'll know the plan, the realistic timeline and the fee arrangement in writing before any work begins.

You leave with: terms in writing
04

The Resolution

We pursue the outcome we agreed on and you hear from us along the way — at each meaningful step, not only when it's over.

You leave with: the matter closed

Common Questions

Before you
pick up the phone.

The questions we are asked most often, answered plainly — so you know what to expect before you call.

How soon should I call after a loss or an injury?

Sooner is better. Notice requirements, policy deadlines and statutes of limitation vary by claim type and by state, and physical evidence degrades quickly — roofs get repaired, vehicles get scrapped, memories fade. An early conversation costs nothing and keeps your options open.

What should I have ready for the first call?

Whatever you already have: the policy or contract, any denial or settlement letter, photographs, repair estimates, and a rough timeline of what happened and when. If you don't have the paperwork, call anyway — in most matters we can request it on your behalf.

My insurer already denied the claim. Is it too late?

Often, no. A denial is the carrier's position on your claim, not a final ruling on it — denials can frequently be appealed or challenged, and the stated reason does not always hold up once the policy language and the evidence are examined. What matters are the deadlines in your policy and under state law, which is precisely why the call is worth making now rather than later.

Will I actually speak with an attorney?

Yes. This is a two-attorney firm and both direct lines are published on this page. The attorney you speak with is the attorney who works your file — there is no intake department between you and your lawyer.

Do you handle matters in Colorado as well as Texas?

Yes. Calhoun Law Firm PLLC is licensed to practice in both Texas and Colorado, and represents homeowners, business owners, consumers, injured persons and area organizations in both states.

What does it cost to have my matter reviewed?

The initial case review is free. If we take the matter on, the fee arrangement is explained and agreed in writing before any work begins — you will not receive a surprise invoice from this firm.
